“My vessels are not mere objects; they are containers for light, where illumination weaves through their forms, revealing a dance of light and ethereal beauty within.”

I draw deep inspiration from traditional Chinese and Japanese porcelains, exploring the inherent qualities of porcelain clay that have made it cherished through the ages. Eschewing popular surface decorations, I enhance my sleek, modern vessels and sculptural forms solely through the play of light that shines through small glazed "windows" in the translucent surfaces. After throwing the exceptionally thin pieces, I delicately drill patterned openings, allowing light to dance within. During the final firing, my elegant pearl white glaze fills the drilled apertures, bestowing these delicate forms with a luminescence akin to glass.

— Akio Niisato
