Curator's words

"I am honored to be the curator of “CRAFT Now” as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Fine Art Asia, an important platform for the convergence of ancient and modern art in Hong Kong."

The “CRAFT Now” pavilion explores the intersection of art and craft. It highlights how artists blur the lines between the two through their creative expression. Sustaining craft practices involves inheriting techniques while fusing them with innovative ideas. This approach enhances the use of materials and applications to reflect culture, aesthetics, and thoughts relevant to today’s world. Featuring over thirty outstanding works from China, Japan, and Korea, many pieces are making their debut in Hong Kong at this pavilion. These artworks preserve Asia’s unique craftsmanship while showcasing boldness and innovation in material use, including lacquer, ceramics, bamboo, wood, paper, metalwork, glass, horsehair, and textiles. The quality of these exhibits has garnered recognition from local and international museums, earning numerous awards. These prove that contemporary craft transcends the label of “handicraft” and holds a significant cultural and collectible value.

I look forward to more opportunities to showcase the diversity of crafts in the future. This exhibition has benefited from the support of a dedicated team from the organiser, as well as the expertise of two veteran experts, Mr YING Jian and Ms LI Qian, Eva. Together with the enthusiastic support of fellow galleries, we have made this exhibition possible. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved.

「工藝當下」探討了藝術與工藝之間的交匯點，藝術家們透過獨特的美學模糊了兩者的界限。真正的傳承不僅在於技法的延續，更在於傳統工藝與創新理念的融合，進而提升材料與技術的應用，反映當今的文化、美學與思想。展覽匯聚了中國、日本和韓國超過三十件精彩作品，當中許多首次在香港亮相。這些藝術作品不僅延續了亞洲獨特的工藝技術，還在材料運用上展現了大膽與創新的精神，涵蓋漆藝、陶瓷、竹材、木材、紙張、金工、琉璃、馬毛及纖維等多種材質。展品水準獲得國內外博物館認可，並在國際獎項中屢獲殊榮，證明工藝已不再僅限於「工藝品」的標籤，而是在當代藝術中佔有重要地位，具備文化與收藏價值。

我期盼未來有更多機會呈現當代工藝的多元。是次展覽獲得大會專業團隊支援，並由資深當代工藝專家應健先生與李倩女士擔任顧問，亦承蒙多家藝廊熱心支持，方能順利舉行，在此致以誠摯謝意。
